Let’s Chat: Oral Bacteria and Cell Salts: I know, I’m very fun!
Sugar Season is upon us - which is sweet, but ya know...has some less-than-sweet moments! I wanted to talk about 2 things: oral bacteria and cell salts: I know, I’m very fun!
When it comes to the issue with sugar and tooth health it’s actually what the sugar are doing: feeding bad bacteria. Sugar can also get lodger in teeth (hello, gummies), adhering to the surface and creating direct rot in that manner - but at the end of the day - even our clients with a heavy bacterial load AND the best oral care habits will struggle dentally. Why? Because bacteria love the oral mucosa! And many bacteria enter that way!
The daily care dental tools! There are many dental tools that we reach for in specific cases, but these are my top go-tos for general recommendations from our oral health shop section.
DentalCidin Toothpaste: This is my daily brusher. It’s costly for a toothpaste, but a little dab, especially if you only use in the evening before your mouth sits all night - is wonderful. The herbs in this mix make it antibacterial, but also biofilm breaking. Plaque on your teeth is a biofilm example. Biofilms also exist in our mucosal layers (lungs, intestines, ENT...). Bad bacteria can use biofilms to protect themselves from our immune cells killing them and our digestion secretions cleaning them out. Dentalcidin fights back everytime you brush: opening biofilm so bacteria can’t make a home in your tissues. Since brushing with this, my dentist and hygenist comment everytime how little buildup there is on my teeth at cleanings. 10/10
Oral Supreme Oil: LOVE this oil for many reasons. You can see it’s a blend of peppermint, tea tree, pomegranate, cinnamon..and it tastes like that. It can also work wonders added to oil pulling if you’re trying to get rid of a surface cavity. It’s also a perfect anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, bio-film breaking tool to apply directly to any sort of infection pain in the mouth. I often add a drop of this to my brush if I’m not using Dentalcidin paste to boost the clean.
CocoFloss: I’m a flossing addict, and CocoFloss is my night-time go-to for getting the job thoroughly done. It’s a woven floss that expands a bit when between your teeth → it removes more. It’s also coated in coconut oil, which deposits those anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-biofilm qualities directly between your teeth. A great tool for those who struggle with more issues between the teeth.
Ozonated Oils: I prefer Pur’s coconut or olive oil and use it from time to time as we have oral irritations. A bit ago, I had a cracked tooth after a amalgam filling replacement that went North to South. Pain. Infection pretty quick once the crack set it and ozonated oil helped me get to my next appointment. These have ozone infused (oxygen molecules) into the oil, making them gentle, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and helps with any stink going on. Use as needed.
Aches N’ Pains Wheel: This remedy contains both a homeopathic for brushing, sweling, achy pains and nerve pains (hi, teeth!!) and it such a helpful tool when a dental issue is popping up. Also a great support for teething, uncomfy wisdom teeth and any sort of random shooting dental pain.
After Surg Wheel: This remedy is a wonderful blend designed to support what the body goes through after a surgery of any sort. It was my solo pain support after I had said cracked tooth removed last year. It also includes Arnica, the classic remedy for pain, aching, bleeding and clotting, bruising as well as Staphysagria which promotes healing of cuts and surgical intrusions to the body. Safe for all ages and has really helped some of our kiddos after more involved dental procedures. That’s the crew and what I keep in our medicine cabinet when it comes to teeth and teeth tools. Between these tools, a solid electric toothbrush ( LOVE the Therasmile with red light! - code HEYHEYMAE ) and a tongue scraper used each morning, you should be on your way to a healthier dental environment.
If you’re already in tooth trouble, I want you to consider 2 things:
1. Have you struggled with bacterial infections and issues (Strep, Ear Infections, Sinusitis, Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Bacterial Vaginosis, Lyme, Bartonella, Strep B Positives, UTI’s, Eczema Impetigo or boils, EColi, Salmonella, Campylobacter, H.Pylori or STIs? These are signs your immune system needs balancing work so it can appropriately resolve bacterial infections on a regular basis. The body’s loss of control on bacterial infections anyplace body-wide will translate to poor oral health.
2. Cell salts give your body the building blocks it needs to restore your dental health. Just like Vitamins D3 and K2 can help lots with calcium transport to your teeth - cell salts come and support dental healing. Learning about these nutrients in your body is something we work into blood panel reviews and is key for those who have lived a bit depleted (chronically ill, many babies, kids back-to-back, high stress etc). You can read more about cell salts below.
No one is too young or too old to focus on building dental health with these smart tools!
What are Cell Salts?
Which one is right for me?
You may have seen them before: cell or tissue salts. They’re the same thing, by different names. They can come in and support healthy teeth development in all ages. Did you know your teeth, just like your bones, are always remodeling and mending? Pretty wild.
Cell Salts are often called ‘homeopathic vitamins; because they are made from mineral compounds that make up our tissues, cells, bones and - your teeth! In the good spirit of homeopathic function, they prompt or push your body to healing and healthy function. We use these lots in pregnancy, too, to support healthy bone and tissue growth in baby!
Let’s cover our top Cell Salts for dental health:
If a tooth is slow to develop or heal, when there’s general weakness in the teeth, even into the inner structures. When a tooth has a cavity that’s already into the tooth, this cell salt can be supportive. Great for slow healing teeth issues, too. Also called the ‘homeopathic lancet’ - I used it last week to push a splinter out that was buried deep. Pushed out my finger on its own by day’s end. This is my first grab if a toothache hits. It has some skills as a pain reliever for toothache, with the pains of teething or when teeth are very sensitive to cold. Also called the ‘homeopathic aspirin’ - great for muscles and nerves.
Perfect for strengthening! This is our body’s most abundant tissue salt and is a building block for strong bones and teeth, especially during growing years. This can help fortify weak enamel or teeth that are prone to cavities. Perfect support for much fatigue and weakness - after mental/emotional/physical work, during growth spurts, pair with Calc Fluor and or Silica to build strong, healthy teeth in all ages. I’d also dose this in my kiddo after a broken bone with Silicea if slowly healing or Calc Fluor.
Great for strengthening the tooth enamel. When enamel is strong, sugar has less places to slide into to promote cavity development. This remedy is great for supporting connective tissue issues - like any teeth loose in their sockets. (Calcarea) Fluorica - a beautiful word for beautiful bones. These salts are something you’d dose daily for a few months, then take a rest from and evaluate if you need to proceed.
