Does the End of Summer Make You Feel Worse?

Have you noticed your body feeling...a little angrier this time of year?

Maybe you're flushing more easily. Maybe the hives are back. Your heart races when you're outside. Foods you've tolerated all year suddenly seem to bother you. Or maybe you're simply more exhausted than you were a few weeks ago.

Late summer can be a perfect storm for those dealing with histamine issues and MCAS.

The heat hasn't quite let up, humidity is at its peak, environmental molds and fungi are thriving outdoors, and if your home has a hidden mold problem, those higher humidity levels can make indoor exposures even worse. Add in some of summer's favorite high-histamine foods - tomatoes from the garden, fresh berries, fermented picnic foods - and it's no wonder so many people feel like they're suddenly reacting to everything.

Did you catch last week's podcast with our lead practitioner, Krista?

We spent the episode unpacking MCAS, histamine intolerance, POTS, and why these conditions are so often signs of an immune system that's been stuck in overdrive. If you're someone who deals with flushing, hives, dizziness, shortness of breath, digestive reactions, or that feeling that your body just won't calm down, I think you'll find it incredibly helpful.

The end of summer used to be one of my least favorite times of year.

Not because I didn't love summer - but because my body couldn't tolerate it.

The heat alone could wipe me out. Tomatoes and raspberries, two of my favorite summer foods, would leave me covered in hives across my chest and completely exhausted. My birthday is in August, and my favorite cake has always been chocolate with raspberry. For years, even a single raspberry was enough to make me regret dessert.

Today, that story looks very different.

Once we uncovered why my immune system had become so reactive - including a mold exposure that was keeping it on high alert and a chronic viral issue pushing cross-reactivity (hi, eggs..) - and worked to restore a healthier immune foundation, the histamine reactions disappeared.

This week I'll be raspberry picking.

Next month I'll enjoy my birthday cake.

No antihistamines. No histamine supplements. No fear!

Not because I learned to avoid raspberries forever - but because we addressed why my immune system was sounding the alarm in the first place.

That's the hope we want people to know.  It's not just MCAS for ever.  Or fear of fainting come summer's end or that one week of your cycle.

If you're living with MCAS, histamine intolerance, or POTS symptoms, you don't have to settle for managing reactions forever. We'd love to help you investigate what's keeping your immune system activated and build a healthier foundation from the inside out.  In the meantime, you may find our new remedy, Mast Ease Wheel, a very welcome symptom support!

Because your body was designed to enjoy summer - not fear it!

Bite Size Cases and Go-To Remedies

With barbecue season, vacations, and summer celebrations in full swing, Nux vomica is a great remedy to keep in your home first aid kit. It's best known for supporting digestive upset after overindulgence, including heartburn and indigestion.

Some classic indications include heartburn and cramping abdominal pain that is worse after eating and feels better with warm drinks.

Like all homeopathic remedies, Nux vomica has many uses. It can also be helpful for urinary discomfort when there is a constant urge to urinate but only small amounts are passed. Similarly, it may support constipation when there is a persistent urge to have a bowel movement, but little or nothing happens.

Another use for Nux vomica is disturbed sleep—especially waking around 3–4 a.m. with a busy mind, replaying work, or making mental to-do lists. While there are many possible reasons for waking at this time, it can sometimes be associated with a stressed liver, and Nux vomica is a remedy that can be supportive.

On a deeper level, Nux vomica is frequently associated with driven, ambitious individuals who push themselves hard, take on too much, and have difficulty slowing down. If that sounds familiar, this little remedy may be one worth knowing.

As always you want the symptoms to match the remedy as closely as possible and for the deeper support you would want to book a call and see if this remedy or another is for you.
