Gentle Suggestions for Real Life Sickness
This week, I have a peek into to a real-life sick scenario to help you improve family sick care in your day-to-day. I’m enjoying listening to dripping water, seeing melting snow here in Kentucky as I type - we need some outdoor air time! Melting snow also means we’re a good bit through sick season, but we did have a little icky run through our house this weekend. We supported with homeopathy to keep our family resilient and away from the copay office…I mean urgent care ;)
Friday evening, I developed a pretty intense headache and sinus pressure. I was tired, had a busy week and thought I may just be run down. So I dosed Wimpy Wheel for the quick onset symptoms and Oscillococinum, in case it was a flu start. Simple Drainage too, to move any sinus gunk out. I went to bed by 9 after a healthy dinner and lots of water to drink! Around 1 am, I woke with an odd-feeling belly, so I used Simple Drainage to help move things and another Oscillococcinum dose, rolled over and went back to sleep. I keep these remedies as well as Hista Wheel, Aches N’ Pains and Tummy SOS in my nightstand for moments like these. In the morning, I woke up feeling fine.
5 am, a sweet little boy appears at my door with a worried face, wiggling back and forth, saying his belly hurts and feels weird. You know the face. I sent him to his bathroom and asked if he’d like to relax in a bath, if he had any other symptoms so I could make a “tiny water” (homeopathy added to a small glass of water) to support his symptoms. His symptom report: stomach pain, a small urge to throw up, nausea and mostly a cramping belly.
I dosed Wimpy Wheel for symptom onset, Oscilococcinum for my flu connected concerns, Tummy SOS for his belly cramps and Energetic Flu Tone for *what sounded like* nausea. He got in a warm bath and I added a cup of Epsom salts and turned on his favorite kids finance podcast. I also offered him a glass of ice water to sip - because digestion runs North to South and if we prompt it that way, it helps keep it North to South, if you catch my drift. I offered him an activated charcoal binder cap, opened into water to help bind potential tummy bug, but he passed.
Once he got out of the bath, more tummy cramping complaints, so a second dose of Tummy SOS. I also gave him a castor oil roller ball to roll on his skin over his liver, large intestine and belly button. Castor oil goal is to support drainage and produce a BM. Half hour later he was eating breakfast. That went well. He laid down to watch a show and he grabbed for the Therasage PEMF mat and heating pad over his belly for 15 minutes.
Bounced back to normal play and life.
2 hours later, he had a few bouts of diarrhea, but no more pain, so we used Runs, Hun Wheel to support the loose stools. Symptoms wrapped up by lunchtime. Later that evening he did have another headache, which we used Head Pains Wheel and another Oscillococcinum dose for, *just* in case we were working through Flu. Woke up Sunday, good as new - off to school on this Monday.
That may be a little nitty gritty, but the best way to learn is to see!
Can you see how I kept asking for his symptoms and continued to match dosing to those? As the symptoms lessened, I stopped dosing the remedy that matched that symptom. When the symptoms continued, like the stomach cramping, I dosed again - and with favorable response, I paused dosing and watched his response. It also didn’t take much product to get a response.
You’ll also notice that I employed all my good care habits alongside. He took a bath with epsom salts, we pushed water drinking, ate a healthy low-sugar breakfast, offered a charcoal binder - all things that would help slow a bacterial or viral issue, if that was what was at play. We also added a bath, for comfort and drainage/hydration support, castor oil for drainage and digestion support and a little heat to comfort and promote intestinal blood flow. All with the goal of moving out whatever was bothering his belly.
